WildPines Yarn Shop, located at 371 Pond Road in Mount Vernon Maine, is a community welcoming space for EVERYONE. It is located in the historic/restored 1790s Whittier grist mill in the center of Mount Vernon village, which is a picturesque location that also features Minnehonk Lake and Town Beach, several galleries and soon to be home to numerous studios all within a short walking distance from the mill. WildPines Yarn Shop is on the first floor of the mill, as well as a “curated unique finds” shop, retro collectibles boutique, other potential art studios and tea room in the same building.
So, are you looking for a new project or help getting through a current one? Owner and executive knitting enchantress, Sarah Leone, has the expert knowledge and patience for new knitters who want to learn. For the more experienced knitters, learning new techniques and discussing patterns, or finding that perfect yarn for the next project.
The shop provides familiar brands of yarn and supports small indie dyers and fiber farms from the local areas and New England. Also, Sarah stocks everything a knitter could want or need. Needles, hooks, notions, project bags, knitting gift items for hard to buy folks and ready-made knits for those that don’t do fiber craft, but appreciate handmade items. Should you want something special knit for a gift, or yourself, commissioned orders are welcome too.
Knitting is one of Sarah’s passions, and opening her yarn shop is a “dream come true” for providing a creative, healing service to her community and family. If she is not knitting, Sarah is cooking, or baking, with her three kids, or walking and exploring in the woods with her husband and family, tending to the collection of critters that reside on their little homestead. This is her dream having been borne out of a desire to help others who might use knitting as a way to calm and heal an injured heart and soul. It comes from her own experience of loss. “I want to open a space where everyone feels welcome and find the comfort in a creative environment.”
Group classes and private instruction are available, as well as a weekly open knit night for anyone with a handcraft they’d like to work on for a couple of hours. Feel like hanging out? Bring a project, grab a seat, and enjoy the village from the front porch!
